SUMMARY:Nine Night for Ras Judah Adunbi
DESCRIPTION:Many people from local community will know of the hard work ove
 r the decades\, the late Ras Judah Adbuni has dedicated to his city. With 
 trying to strengthening trust between policing and Bristol’s African-Car
 ibbean and Black heritage communities. He was a founding member of indepen
 dent advisory groups\, this role enabled a vital space for community voice
 s. Working within the Council he was involved with mentoring the younger g
 enerations through sports and helping with community development\, and con
 tributing to the St Paul’s Sports Academy.\nHe worked tirelessly helping
  his community through a period when racial discrimination was rife\, and 
 opportunities for young black people was far and few between. The mistrust
  of the Police Force within the local community was a constant issue\, whi
 ch had led to numerous uprisings.\nIn 2017 he was tasered by an Avon and S
 omerset Police officer when outside his Easton home\, after being mistaken
  for a suspect he resembled. The officer who was involved in this incident
  would be later cleared of misconduct. Ras Judah would go on with other me
 mbers of the community to highlight this incident and the wider issues of 
 race and policing in discussions and TV interviews. A documentary\, I Am J
 udah\, would follow\, addressing his whole experience.\n\nJudah was an avi
 d Cricket fan\, who could also be found spending his time at Rose Green Ce
 ntre\, home of the Bristol West Indies Cricket Club.\nHe took on the role 
 as radio Co-Presenter on Ujima Radio. His weekly programme would discuss t
 he disparity of the black community in society.\nA man who truly champione
 d against injustice\, and wasn’t afraid to put himself on the frontline 
 for change.\n\nA Nine Night (funeral wake) will take place to celebrate hi
 s legacy. This will take place on Friday 20th March 7-9pm\, @ The Rose Gre
 en Centre\, 65 Gordon Rd\, Whitehall\, Bristol\, BS5 7DR.
